Dear RX8ers.

Our Mega-Gathering for 2009 will be held on 13DEC09 (Sunday). We have planned a fun filled day for us all. I’m sure for those who joined us in 2008, we would still be able to remember that we achieved the largest (for it’s time) a 51 RX8’s photoshoot and convoy.

For 2009, we want to make it even bigger. We said we’ll be ambitious, and that’s what we’re out to achieve. Let’s make 2009 Mega-Gathering the largest ever and we aim to achieve 100 RX8’s.

We plan to have the entire day covered by Video/ Photos and each member will be getting a CD after the event as a keepsake.

So to give you a sneak peek into what we would have in store on the day:

Itinery For the Day
1. Early morning – Meet up point (Sunway Pyramid)
2. Convoy – 100 cars to Photoshoot location (Putrajaya)
3. Photoshoot – Group and individual shots, models, magazine coverage,
4. Lunch – Buffet lunch in Shangri-La Putrajaya
5. Dyno Challenge – End the day with a Dyno challenge in Sunway (Optional)

All Costs for the day should be financed up-front by each member of a sum RM 150 as participation fees and will include goodie bags, the Event CD, Lunch. Additional pax for lunch at RM 50. The Dyno challenge is a separate charge of approximately RM 50.

* Do note that prices are just an estimate for now. We’ll be able to confirm final prices soon.

The Dyno Challenge is optional and will be limited to the first 20 cars that register for Dyno Challenge. The price is RM 50 per car and JC Racing in Sunway will be hosting us this time round.

As you know JC Racing is a renowned tuner in Sunway and we would have the opportunity to fight it out on their dyno machine on the event day.

The Dyno Challenge will (subject to change) be broken into 4 categories. Each category there will be a require a minimum cars to be considered a participating category in this challenge.

1. 4AT (min 5 cars)
2. 6AT (min 5 cars)
2. 6MT (min 5 cars)
3. Force Induction – Turbo/ Supercharged (both 4AT/6AT/6MT) (min 3 cars as not many FI cars around)

There will be a prize for the highest Wheel Horse Power (WHP) recorded for each participating category of the day.

Ever been bitten by the modification bug? Either call it modification or call it tuning, it’s that little something which you do to your ride which either enhances it’s appearance or performance. Motorheads are spoilt for choice with many different tuners offering their magic parts which boasts to improve stock performance. Essentially, there’s a few categories of modification:

• Engine performance – ECU reflashes, Exhaust upgrade, Turbocharging/ Supercharging
• Handling – Coilovers, strut bars, stabiliser bars, bushings
• Appearance – Aggressive bumpers, skirts, wings, aerodynamic, and downforce
• ICE – Amps, Woofers, etc

The RX8 community continues to thrive on such modifications, whilst sharing best practices and a little childhood showoff from time to time…..

If you have an 8 and yet to be bitten by the modification bug, then do enter our forum at your own risk. Do take heed of this Surgeon General’s Health Warning – Entering RX8clubmalaysia.com and attending Friday TT’s greatly increases your risk of being bitten by the modification bug. After the RX8 initial launch in 2003, Mazda released a limited run of the “Mazdaspeed Version” boasting various Mazdaspeed accessories as well as a slightly tuned ECU. This special edition was available in Strato Blue Mica or Sunlight Silver. Only 300 were produced. In 2004, Mazda followed up with a “Mazdaspeed Version II,” this time available only in Strato Blue and with slightly up-rated equipment. Only 300 were produced as before.

The list of modifications done by Mazdaspeed for this limited production were:

• Tuned ECU for additional 10ps
• MS flywheel
• Dual Mazdaspeed oil coolers
• MS Exhaust catback exhaust system
• MS shock absorbers and lowered springs
• MS brake pads
• MS Stabiliser bars (front, rear, and under)
• Full MS bodykit (front, side, rear, and wing)
• MS Earthing kit
• Defi link meters
• And other yummy MS optional items such as the MS-01S Forged magnesium rims, MS Type-F racing seats, MS interior Carbon look parts, etc

In Malaysia, our last count , there are at least 5 of these limited edition MS versions and we’re fortunate enough to be able to photograph one of our member’s ride. Read more about it in the forum.

That very same afternoon, about 20+ RX8’s attended the joint Mazdaclub TT organised by Bermaz Ampang. The carparks were filled to the brim with Mazda cars of all sorts…..RX8’s dominated though… guess it’s a show of how strong our club/cult following is. Well done RX8clubmalaysian’s!!

RX8clubmalaysia covered today’s Team Toyo Street Gymkhana challenge event. Lonesome photogs Mazdaspeed88 and Goober braved the hot sun and exhaust filled atmosphere to bring the event to you up close and personal.

So you may ask.. what is a Gymkhana??? No it’s not a Gym with Sour Kana… Gymkhana is a type of motorsport practiced in Japan. Similar to autocross, Gymkhana courses are often very complex and memorising the course is a significant part of achieving a fast time.

Gymkhana events are time/speed events events (four our purposes here,) in an car. There can be obstacles such as cones, tires, and barrels. The driver is expected to maeuver through the predetermined “track” performing many different driving techniques. What separates gymkhana from your traditional autocross event is that in gymkhana drivers are required to perform reversals, 180 degree spins, 360 degree spins, parking boxes, figure 8s and other advanced skills. Also drifting is encouraged where helpful/necessary. Really though, you can consider any event a Gymkhana which has a starting point, a finish line and some sort of “obstacle” to get through, around, or by, and is timed!
